The Music Tee brings fashion, art and music together

The Music Tee, the newest and most innovative way to enjoy music, is excited to announce that they have signed blanket deasl with several record labels, including Warner Brothers, Interscope, Downtown Records, Shangra-La, Knitting Factory, Dim Mak and several other indie labels. Described by the Los Angeles Times as “a novel approach to music marketing,” the deal allows any artists on these labels will be able to release their music via The Music Tee.

In addition, The Music Tee is launching a “Vintage Collection” series for 2010, premiering Wednesday February 3, 2010. The Vintage Collection will add several new artist titles each month, starting with punk legends Bad Religion, Bad Brains and The Exciter.

A joint venture between Girlie Action and L.A.-based innovator Invisible DJ, The Music Tee is a new and unique way for musicians to sell their music while creating a new outlet for fans to experience music and album art together again. It’s a shirt that has 'cover art' on the front and a track list on the back. Each shirt comes with a hang tag with a unique URL to download the music from TheMusicTee.com.

The Music Tee is registered with Nielsen SoundScan, so each download counts as an album sale. The point is to help artists find a new platform to actually sell their music again while combining fashion and music. Past artist tees that are still available include Devandra Banhart, The Asteroids Galaxy Tour, Kid Sister, The Dim Mak Dance Compilation #1, Monsters of Folk, Mos Def and more!

The Music Tee launched in 2009 and is being carried by various retail outlets including Ron Herman, Metro Park, Saks Fifth Avenue, Kitson, Shopbop, and dozens of other boutiques and chains. Artists (and their labels) are also selling their shirts on tour, on their websites and through various music distributors, just like CDs.
