Royal/T to offer Alice in Wonderland teas, art and more

As Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland quickly approaches its eagerly anticipated release on Friday, March 5th, we’ve noticed an ongoing trend of everything from specialty cocktails to art exhibits catering to the Alice-loving crowd.

From March 5th – March 31st, Royal/T, Culver City’s quirky 10,000-square-foot Japanese “cosplay” maid café will serve guests a special Alice in Wonderland High Tea set. The shareable "Alice High Tea" (serves 2-3 people) will be $25.00 and include Playing Cards Tea Sandwiches, ‘Eat Me’ Cupcakes, ‘Drink Me’ Special Royal/T Green Milk Tea blend, and Deep Purple Macaroons. It will be served by the “cosplay” café’s maid servers who will all be wearing playful Alice costumes.

Royal/T will also host a Alice in Wonderland kids fashion show that will be free and open to the public on Saturday, March 6th at 2pm. This event will be geared towards families with young children. A variety of fun girl’s dresses will be up for sale at Royal/T’s pop-up store, and will also be modeled during the fashion show by children aged 3-4 years old.

The event will also feature miniature ‘Eat Me’ cupcakes for sale and complimentary non-alcoholic ‘Drink Me’ beverages. The event will run through the afternoon and also include other special giveaways, and live Alice, White Rabbit, and Mad Hatter “characters” interacting with guests through the venue.

Royal/T’s newest exhibit, “The Never Ending Story: Fairytale, Fantasy and Obsession” curated by Laura Hoptman explores themes of fairytales and their contemporary expression, fantasy.

The opening party on February 4, 2010 was an Alice-inspired blowout bash featuring miniature Eat Me cupcakes (see image below), “Drink Me” Absinthe cocktails, and kitschy Alice-themed characters and costumes. The exhibit will be on display through August 2010. Always ahead of the trend, the 10,000-square-foot venue also hosted a “Mad Hatter” tea party in March 2009 complete with a life size chess set and Cheshire Cat character.
