The Pasadena Unified School District’s (PUSD) stellar young musicians will demonstrate their talent at the first of two All District Music Festivals this spring on Friday, February 26, at 7 p.m. at the Pasadena High School auditorium. This annual event provides a first-class performance opportunity for student musicians to broaden their experience and prepare them for advanced musical training. The students will also have the opportunity to play under the leadership of prominent local musician Paul Kilian, who will serve as guest conductor.
Musicians representing all PUSD elementary, middle and high school campuses will present symphonic band, orchestra, and jazz ensembles. Featured conductors include PUSD instrumental music staff: Roxanne Duboucheron, Amy McLean, Karen Klages, David Miller, and Michael Birnbryer.
Guest conductor Paul Kilian of Pasadena City College grew up in Pasadena attending Washington and Marshall middle schools, Pasadena High School and Pasadena City College. He received a Bachelor of Music in Composition from USC, a Masters of Arts from California State University Los Angeles, and doctorate in Education from the University of La Verne. For ten years he ran the Music Program at the Boys Club of Pasadena, then taught Classical and Jazz Theory at Pasadena City College and conducted jazz and concert bands. He served for 17 years as Music Department Chair and later as Dean of Performing & Communication Arts. He retired in 2005.
The concert is free to the public.
