A Noise Within offering internships

A Noise Within (ANW), the highly regarded classical repertory theatre company, announces acting and production internships for the fall season. The program, which runs from Aug. 24 - Dec. 20, 2009, is open to all aspiring professional artists but geared toward actors looking for classical training to jumpstart a professional career or to prepare for graduate work in theatre.

Acting Interns perform, understudy, and crew during ANW's fall season as they simultaneously undergo more than 100 hours of intensive acting and technical training with ANW's famed resident artists and teachers. This internship culminates in a scene performance night with an invited audience of industry professionals.

Past ANW interns have held leading roles in subsequent productions by A Noise Within and have gone on to work at such venues as San Diego's Old Globe Theatre, Mark Taper Forum, Ahmanson, South Coast Repertory, Pasadena Playhouse, Colorado Shakespeare Festival, Berkeley Repertory, American Conservatory Theatre and many others.

Production Interns participate in one-on-one partnerships with ANW's acclaimed directors, designers and creative artists in costume design, directing, lighting design, props, set design, sound, stage management or theatre administration.

Past interns have been subsequently been accepted at NYU and Cal Arts, among others.

"A Noise Within provides a vigorous and rewarding opportunity in the Professional Internship Program," says 2008 Acting Intern Anne Troup, who is currently working towards her MFA in acting at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. "Its unique blend of production and course work with seasoned actors, directors and theatre professionals allow for both mentorship and collaboration. I felt welcomed into a community and supported by its members. I left the program with deep friendships and a renewed sense of my artistic passions."

Brooke Parks, a 2004 intern who enrolled in Yale School of Drama's MFA program, recalls her experience at A Noise Within as ".in a word: PRICELESS. The rare artistic integrity and focus of the company will continue to guide me for the rest of my career in theatre."

A Noise Within, hailed by critics as "adventurous," "compelling and current," "ingenuity at work," "a bona fide class act," and "what great theatre is all about," was founded in 1991 and quickly established itself as the only classical repertory company in Southern California and a leader in the presentation and preservation of classical theatre.

ANW has attracted fiercely loyal audiences and high praise from the media for its productions of great works of world drama and also as a leading regional force in arts education. It is one of only a handful of organizations in the entire country dedicated solely to producing classical dramatic literature year-round and working in the repertory tradition of rotating productions using a resident company of professional artists.

Application deadline is Aug. 17, and there is a $50 application fee. Acting Interns must also pay a $500 class tuition fee. Production Interns are welcome to participate in acting class for the same tuition. A limited number of scholarships is available. Admission to the Acting Internship program is by audition; admission to the Production Internship program is by interview and portfolio review, the latter for all but stage manager candidates. All applicants may obtain the program's application form and submit it with a resume. Acting Internship candidates should also submit a photo.

The form is available by calling (818) 265-7961 or downloading at www.anoisewithin.org.

A NOISE WITHIN is located at 234 South Brand Boulevard, Glendale, CA, 91204.
