Rick Parnell's premier offering sprouts from the very roots of the folk-rock tradition and then subtly suggests a whole new direction. Introspective and captivating, listeners compare Rick Parnell most often to Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen, though Parnell insists it’s not fair to suggest he sounds like either. John Lennon, George Harrison, and Johnny Cash are also influences that arise when describing Parnell’s vocal and song writing style. So who is Rick Parnell? After an enviable corporate career, Rick Parnell was compelled to acknowledge that his true passion has always been music.
He first picked up a guitar after the death of John Lennon, revealing: “That event made me more introspective and more aware of the power of music.”
Active songwriting really began in 2006, when Parnell was challenged to create an original song for a charity gig. Buoyed by the enthusiastic response, he began a productive period of songwriting that continues without an end in view.
“I’ve always loved music; in the last two years I experienced a unexpected wave of creativity and complexity in my songwriting. My timing appears to be pretty good because I’m certain what I’m doing wouldn’t have been possible ten years earlier.”
Accomplished musician and producer Graham Ronne—whose claims to fame include having toured with the beloved Johnnie Johnson (for whom Chuck Berry’s Johnny B. Goode was titled)—is the engineer, producer and lead guitarist on this EP. Together they create an overall folk-rock and classic-rock sound with a richness that defies the limited instrumentation.
This strong debut EP is now available for download or order on CD Baby. iTunes, Amazon.com and other on-line distributors.
