LA Zoo offers new animal adoption package

It's not exactly American Idol, but apparently some Los Angeles Zoo animals are more, well, popular than others when it comes to the Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association's (GLAZA) "Animals Depend on People Too" (A.D.O.P.T.) program, which raises money to support endangered species and wildlife around the world.

In time for the holidays, GLAZA announces the TOP TWELVE MOST "A.D.O.P.T.ed" LA ZOO ANIMALS as it debuts an exclusive holiday gift for wildlife enthusiasts in which the recipient becomes an A.D.O.P.T.ive parent to a different Los Angeles Zoo animal a month for the entire year. The tax-deductible gift package begins with an exclusive desk calendar featuring beautiful photos of the Top Twelve, one animal per month, and continues throughout the year with the arrival each month of a personalized certificate and photo fact sheet matching that month's animal.

Heading the "popularity" list are elephants followed by koalas, tigers, giraffes, gorillas, orangutans, meerkats, snow leopard, hippos, jaguars, Komodo dragons, and California condors.

"A.D.O.P.T. is one of our most well-liked fund-raising programs," says Connie Morgan, president of GLAZA, which for the last four decades has successfully supported the Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens as an international leader in the preservation of endangered species and a conservation center for the care and study of wildlife. "This holiday season, A.D.O.P.T. is expanding to offer a special gift opportunity for the holidays or any occasion in varying price ranges, with proceeds from the A.D.O.P.T. program supporting endangered species programs at the Los Angeles Zoo and throughout the world."

The special gift package is available for $350 per year, with a six-month plan offered for $175, and if one's budget is more limited, there are single-month packets available for $35. Orders require two weeks for fulfillment.

One-of-a-kind benefits are available at various others levels as well. GLAZA funds Los Angeles Zoo exhibits, plant and animal species conservation, capital projects, and education and community outreach programs.

There are currently 72,000 GLAZA member households, the largest membership base of a cultural organization in Los Angeles, and it boasts a volunteer corps of over 700. The Los Angeles Zoo is a major cultural and entertainment resource for Southern California, a place of beauty and inspiration and a catalyst for discovery of the natural world for children of all ages.
