LA Music Awards kickoff at the Whisky Thursday

The prestigious Los Angeles Music Awards will kick off its 21st year with its Showcase Series/Nomination Night at 6:30PM on Thursday, March 24, 2010 at the Whisky A Go-Go in West Hollywood. The Showcase Series, the first of two, is the beginning of the nominee selection and will include a music industry roundtable, performances by nine artists/bands and the presentation of nominees for this year’s awards.

“Nomination Night is the first of three exciting events in the LA Music Awards season. We announce the first slate of nominees and provide the opportunity for the independent artists and bands the opportunity to meet some of the top executives in the music industry,” says Susanna Griffie, Executive Producer of the LA Music Awards.

2011 marks the move of the industry round table from the Voting Night to each of the Nomination Nights.

“We want to offer more opportunities for nominees to meet with music executives,” states Executive Producer Al Bowman. “These round tables educate the artists on the industry so moving them to the Showcase Series provides additional chances to let the independent artist really get involved with industry executives and learn the process of making it the business.”

Artists will get to ask questions on breaking into the music industry covering topics as such management, publicity, legal issues, production in the 21st Century, contracts and marketing.

The featured panelists are Ryan Greene, Producer/Engineer, Bernadette Brennan, Executive Producer, Angelyn Gates Attorney/Entertainment Litigation, Vicky Hamilton, Personal Manger/Filmmaker and David Kershenbaum, Producer.

“I am excited about being a part of the Nomination Night round table,” says Vicky Hamilton, Personal Manager and producer of the forthcoming documentary Until the Music Ends. “The LA Music Awards is such an amazing opportunity for the independent artist; I look forward to sharing my experience in the industry with up and coming talent.”

Griffie and Bowman have also lined up nine artists/bands including Orpheus, Freex, Marirose, Willie Ames, Sheila Swift, Haydn Cole, Dave Cahow, Leslie Cours Mather and American Greed.

“Our music for the night comes from our previous winners. We want our nominees to hear and see the artists/bands who made it to the top and the amazing talent that it takes to be a winner,” says Griffie.

The grand finale of the night will be the presentation of nominations. Fifty nominees will be announced. Artists will be competing for awards in 30 categories including Male Singer/Songwriter, Female Singer/Songwriter and Record of the Year.
