'Norwegian Wood' opens in LA Jan. 27

NORWEGIAN WOOD opens in Los Angeles on Friday, January 27th, 2012 at the Laemmle’s Music Hall.

Based on the internationally acclaimed and bestselling novel by Haruki Murakami, NORWEGIAN WOOD, is written and directed by Tran Anh Hung (Academy Award®-nominee for THE SCENT OF GREEN PAPAYA) and stars Academy Award®-nominee Rinko Kikuchi (BABEL), Japanese rising star Kenichi Matsuyama, and up and coming Kiko Mizuhara.

NORWEGIAN WOOD is a moving story of loss and sexuality set in Tokyo in the late 1960s against a time of global instability. Watanabe (Matsumaya) looks back on his days as a freshman university student living in Tokyo. Through his reminiscences, we see him develop relationships with two very different women, the beautiful yet emotionally troubled Naoko (Kikuchi), and the outgoing, lively Midori (Mizuhara.) The film's gorgeous cinematography is by Mark Lee Ping Bin (IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE) and the score is by Jonny Greenwood (RADIOHEAD). Originally published in 1987, Murakami's novel has since been translated into 33 languages and published in 36 countries.
