"Mad for Hats!" extended at Pasadena Museum of History

Due to popular demand, Mad for Hats! will remain on view at Pasadena Museum of History through Sunday, September 25, 2011. The exhibition, originally scheduled to close in early June, explores a century of hats, both as fashion and as a reflection on our changing society from the 1860s to 1960s. More than 100 hats and related photographs, selected from the Museum’s collections, showcase the various materials, styles, and shapes of ladies hats over the years. Gallery hours are 12:00 to 5:00 pm Wednesdays through Sundays.

“Visitors from Pasadena and well beyond truly are Mad for Hats!,” explains PMH Executive Director Jeannette O’Malley. “This stunning display of millinery fashion provides a unique context in which to consider the societal forces that shaped people’s lives, as well as their clothing choices. The public is responding to this exhibition with great enthusiasm, and it has been especially rewarding to see many of our visitors – both women and men – arrive wearing their favorite hats!”

Mad for Hats! was curated by Elizabeth Smalley, M.D., Museum Trustee and chair of the Museum’s Collections Committee; Suzanne Ehrmann, jewelry designer and Museum collections volunteer; and Janet Kadin, PMH Volunteer Council President. Antique Millinery Specialist Barbara Troeller is the Museum’s Resident Millinery Historian during the run of this exhibition.
