River journey film at Caltech Oct. 22

Planet Earth - Fresh Water, a high-definition documentary, will featured in a presentation entitled “The Journey of a River From Mountain to Sea” on Saturday, October 22, at 2 p.m. in Caltech’s Beckman Auditorium. This program is part of Caltech’s Science Saturdays series.

Joel Scheingross, a graduate student in geological and planetary sciences at Caltech, will introduce the film and guide the post-screening discussion about the role of rivers in shaping the surface of the Earth.

Scheingross will examine how the Grand Canyon was carved, why rivers meander across flood plains, and how sand gets to the beach. The film also highlights waterfalls and mountain rivers, and explores the unique ecosystems that thrive in the floodwaters of the Amazon river.

Recommended for ages 8 and up.

Tickets to this performance are priced at $5.00 (unreserved seating). Tickets can be purchased at the Caltech Ticket Office, 332 South Michigan Avenue, Pasadena.

Beckman Auditorium is located on Michigan Avenue, south of Del Mar Boulevard, in Pasadena. For information, call the Caltech Ticket Office at (626) 395-4652.
