Vientos Trio to open Wine & Wheels concert series in Hollywood

The opening concert of the Wine & Wheels concert series will feature two of Southern California’s most innovative woodwind trios. Series curator Third Wheel hosts Vientos Trio for a program of locally inspired, cutting-edge chamber music.

Active and accomplished Vientos Trio will perform classical French composer Henri Tomasi’s rustic Concert Champêtre before taking a detour toward more living and local fare. Putting forth several entries in the “composers under age 40” category, Vientos will play music by Carl Schimmel, John B. Hedges, local favorite Jenni Brandon, and the group’s own clarinetist, Jennifer Stevenson. Vientos Trio also features Ryan Zwahlen, oboe, and Michael Kreiner, bassoon.

For the second half of the program, hosts Third Wheel will take the stage to perform works by composers from both coasts: Binnette Lipper from New York, and Gernot Wolfgang from Los Angeles. In the program’s finale, Third Wheel will join forces with Vientos Trio for works by Christopher Lacy and Walter S. Hartley.

The Wine & Wheels concert season features four of Southern California’s hottest chamber music ensembles, each concert showcasing a different group alone and in combination with Third Wheel. The series continues into 2012 with performances on January 8, March 4, and June 10. Third Wheel is Karin Kantenwein, flute; Adrienne Geffen, clarinet; and Rebecca Rivera, bassoon.

Artisan wine and slow-food enthusiasts Fancifull Gift Baskets will provide an intimate and welcoming performance space, adjacent to the shop’s Hollywood showroom. Audience members can sample gourmet wine and snacks, and interact with performers and composers.

Doors open at 3:30, and performances begin at 4 p.m. Tickets are available for $20 in advance, and will be $25 at the door. Ticket price includes the entire concert and wine-tasting experience. Series subscriptions for all four concerts are available at a discounted rate of $65. Fancifull Gift Baskets is located at 5617 Melrose Avenue, near Paramount Studios in Hollywood. Tickets can be purchased online at www.fancifullgiftbaskets.com or by phone at 323-466-7654. For more information, please visit http://thirdwheeltrio.com/blog/?p=158.
