Long Beach gearing up for New Year's Eve

Downtown Long Beach will host a massive celebration this New Year’s Eve with two incredible events beginning at 5 p.m. on Saturday, December 31, 2011.

Produced and sponsored by the Downtown Long Beach Associates (DLBA), New Year’s Eve in Downtown will begin with a family-friendly event in the Waterfront Amphitheatre at Rainbow Harbor followed by a high-energy street party on Pine Avenue.

Family-Friendly Waterfront Celebration

Beginning at 5 p.m., Downtown’s waterfront amphitheatre will come alive with a flurry of activities and roaming performers, including magicians, face painters and balloon artists. Local live bands will serve up family-friendly music and a trackless train will offer free rides along the esplanade between the Aquarium of the Pacific and Shoreline Village. At 9 p.m., the sky light up for an East Coast countdown with a ten minute fireworks spectacular from Rainbow Harbor’s lighthouse peninsula. Don’t miss the final hour of live music as families welcome the New Year together.

Wayward Sons Headline Pine Avenue Celebration

Kicking off at 7 p.m., this year’s Pine Avenue event will encompass two-square city blocks for a massive outdoor celebration.

Love Fool will open the show with a rocking 90s set and in keeping with the countdown theme, they’ll be back for a 80s mix that will set the tone for the event headliner. Wayward Sons, a celebrated 70s cover band, will wow the crowd for two hours and will rock ‘n roll right up until midnight, when the countdown to 2012 will begin.

Six outdoor bar areas will serve up a variety of spirits, allowing guests to enjoy food and beverages throughout the venue without missing a minute of live music.
