Bernie Pearl in LA Mondays

Hi: Happy New Year! I wanted to let you know about a couple of gigs coming up.

But first, a reminder that the Bernie Pearl Blues Band performs every Monday evening 8:00-11:00 at the Barbara Morrison Performing Arts Center in Leimert Park. Barbara's enterprise is one of the great cultural venues in Southern California, featuring Jazz concerts, theatrical presentations, often with musical themes, instructional workshops, kids classes, and most important for me, the Blues. Our Blue Monday sessions feature Albert Trepanier, Jr., drums, Mike Barry, bass. We have played the blues with just about everyone over the past quarter century, and we now include the sensational tenor sax of Bobby "Hurricane" Spencer, a veteran of the Oakland blues scene, and our own Terry de Rouen on guitar and vocals. Big T. is one of the truly exciting and distinctive guitarists you'll ever hear. It's a wonderful venue for music and we often feature outstanding guests who drop in to jam. Each week is different, but we always have a great time partying and celebrating the blues.
BMPAC, 4305 Degnan Bl., LA 90008. Cover is General $10, Musicians $5. Call Barbara at (310) 462-1439.
Metered street and lot parking free after 8:00.

Thursday, January 26, I will be hosting the weekly blues jam at the El Dorado Restaurant in Long Beach. Although I have often sat in with the Dennis Herrera band at the El D. jam, this is my first time leading it. I'm very excited to be opening the show with an hour long set with the Bernie Pearl Blues Band. We have not played in Long Beach since last summer's Bayou Fest, and it has been a very long time since I have done my own material with my own band at a club in LB. We'll kick off the show at 8:00 with an hour-long set, and then open up to the jam session. This jam has become one of the area's busiest and best real blues sessions (no "Mustang Sally", fr'instance), drawing pro and amateur blues musicians of a high quality in impressive numbers.
El Dorado Restaurant, 3014 N. Studebaker (at Spring), LB 90808. No cover, (562) 421-2122, 8:00-12:00.
Lot and street parking free.

Saturday, March 17, Mike Barry and I will once again be in concert at Boulevard Music in Culver City. Last year's show became our latest CD, "Sittin' On the Right Side of the Blues". Co-produced by Mike and myself, the all-acoustic opus has received great reviews and extensive radio play, and has led to much wider recognition than ever before. A word to the wise: our concerts at Boulevard Music are usually very well attended and advance tickets would be prudent. CDs will be available for purchase and autograph. Hope to see you there.
Boulevard Music, 4316 Sepulveda Bl. (at Culver), Culver City 90230. Cover $15. (310) 398-2583.
Free street parking. Doors at 7:00.
