Downloaded coming to a theater near you

Following its triumphant debut at SXSW® and Toronto's Hot Docs, VH1 presents theatrical and VOD runs of its rockDOC DOWNLOADED, the comprehensive music and technology documentary from noted filmmaker and actor Alex Winter.

DOWNLOADED chronicles digital media sharing, including the rise of Napster and its controversial online pioneers Shawn Fanning and Sean Parker. The digital revolution upended both the music industry and music artists, and changed the world. The film features insights from such well-known artists and music industry figures as The Beastie Boys' Mike D; Noel Gallagher; Henry Rollins; former Sony Music Chairman Don Ienner; former record producer and Island Records founder Chris  BlackwellSire Records cofounder Seymour Stein; Grateful Dead lyricist, poet, essayist and "cyberlibertarian" activist JP BarlowHilary Rosen; former CEO of the  Recording Industry Association of America; Harvard law professor and political activist Lawrence Lessig, and other executives, government officials and leaders in the world of civil and digital rights.

VH1 produced DOWNLOADED for its rockDocs film series, which has included the Emmy Award Winning ANVIL! THE STORY OF ANVIL, THE US VS. JOHN LENNON, SOUL  POWER, MARLEY, and more. On July 1, the film will debut on all leading On Demand platforms including iTunes, Amazon Instant Video, Comcast, DirecTV, Time Warner Cable and XBOX, in partnership with digital entertainment curator FilmBuff. Ultimately, following the theatrical and On Demand windows, VH1 will air the film, most likely in 2014. In the meantime it serves as a standard bearer of its rockDocs program.

DOWNLOADED is written, directed and executive produced by Alex Winter and executive produced by Maggie Malina. Consulting producer is Thom Zimny; music is composed by DJ Spooky; editor is Jacob Craycroft and the director of photography is Anghel Decca. Executive Producers for VH1 are Brad Abramson, Warren Cohen, Rick Krim, Bill Flanagan, Shelly Tatro, and Jeff Olde.
