VARGA Gallery art & music happening Saturday

VARGA Gallery launches bi-coastal event with 'Girlz of Zaetar' and 01Gallery

This Saturday, VARGA Gallery unveils "Art in the Time of Chaos: New Mosaics" featuring mixed media artist Kevin Postupack in a solo exhibition with a bi-coastal musical performance by Girlz of Zaetar happening in conjunction with the 01 Gallery in Los Angeles and the outdoor Sun Ra Summer Solstice Festival in Highland Park, California.

Reception forPostupack's solo exhibit "Art in the Time of Chaos: New Mosaics" is 5 - 7 pm with Girlz of Zaetar performing non-stop from 6pm til closing in theVARGA Gallery. Postupack's solo exhibit is on display through Wednesday, July 2, 2008.

Kevin Postupack is a psuedo-demented artist and the owner and founder of Kronos Gallery, a borderline anarchist art venture in Staunton, Virginia. Postupack's website http://www.artisdangerous.com/ says it all and his work is underscored by a prevalent schism of Omniism.

Says Postupack, "OMNIISM contends that the world is too multifarious a place to be reduced artistically into one or two marketable ideas or a so-called 'style.' Omniism abhors artistic assembly lines, complacency and self-censorship. It joyously celebrates experimentation, risk-taking and fearlessness asessential parts of the process of creation. It is fueled byimprovisation."

The NY/LA Girlz of Zaetar event at VARGA Gallery in Woodstock and 01Gallery in Los Angeles will be documented and made available for freeonline. The performance in Los Angeles is being promoted by KXLU Radio.

Girlz of Zaetar are headlining at the outdoor Sun Ra Summer Solstice Festival at La Culebra Park in Highland Park, California at 6 pm, then at the world renowned 01 Gallery in Los Angeles for a jam at 10pm.

01Gallery, founded in 1980 by art dealer and curator John Pochna, is a post contemporary art gallery located in downtown Los Angeles. Its eccentric mix of artists and clientelle have lead 01 Gallery to be thought of as analagous to Andy Warhol's Factory. Notable past curators include Walter Hopps and Carlo McCormick.

The Los Angeles Girlz of Zaetar event features Snakepit, Tequila Mockingbird (myspace.com/tequilaofhollywood) and Marc Leventhal of Green Jello, as well as other luminaries.

The Woodstock performance at the VARGA Gallery features founding members Zatar and Digital Dave as well as a cornucopia of other phenomenal local musicians. Enlightened artists/musicians are invited to bring instruments and join the band in this anything goes improvisational and transcendental historic event. Recordings of the event will be posted online at www.myspace.com/girlzofzaetar and featured on "Apocalypse VARGA" which airs 10pm live each Wednesday at http://www.woodstocktv.org/.

The VARGA Gallery represents self-taught, outsider and visionary artists in Woodstock, New York.
