Cal Phil concert in Pasadena April 17

The one and only California Philharmonic shines the spotlight on Shimmering Strings this April during the next installment of the extremely popular Cal Phil Music, Martinis and the Maestro concert series. The intimate afternoon will feature two violins, a viola, cello, bass and piano, and will take place at the ultra-chic Noir Sofia in Old Town Pasadena on April 17, 2011. Cal Phil Founder Maestro Victor Vener, will conduct a pre-concert chat with the audience beginning at 1:00pm. Informative, entertaining and interactive, the unique series allows audience members an opportunity to speak with the Maestro and musicians during the concert experience. Fine wine, cocktails, gourmet cuisine and a variety of martinis are also available for people to purchase and enjoy while listening to these spectacular chamber music concerts. “I’m looking forward to this concert because it features six of my all-time favorite players and two of the greatest chamber works ever written,” said Vener. Following the Maestro’s half hour introduction, the music begins at 1:45pm with Schubert’s Trout Quintet, a piece the composer based on one of his most popular songs, The Trout. After a brief intermission at 2:45pm, the concert will segue from Vienna to America, by way of Bohemia when the players take up Dvorák’s American Quartet, a work written by the Czech master during his sojourn in the USA and featuring American themes. The upcoming 2011 season for Cal Phil Music, Martinis and the Maestro continues with Beethoven and More on May 15 with violin, cello, piano, guitar. Tickets are available for the two remaining concerts, with prices ranging from $30 to $45 for single seats (all seating is table seating). Private tables are available as well. A full bar and light lunch fare may also be purchased. For menus and further information on Cal Phil Music, Martinis and the Maestro, visit www.calphil.org To purchase tickets call 626.300.8200
