The Orion Experience (http://theorionexperience.com/ ), an underground indie band whose legion of fans include Rachael Ray, Perez Hilton and Lady Gaga, announced today that they will be performing on the West Coast between July 25 and August 14 in support of their 5-song E.P. entitled NYC Girl. The first confirmed dates are:
July 25 @ Honeypot Radio Show, Los Angeles, CA
July 27 @ Crazy Girls Rock Wednesday’s, Los Angeles, CA
Additional dates to be added shortly.
The Orion Experience are best known for placement of their upbeat, danceable tunes on popular national television shows. They have been able to license their music multiple times to Nickelodeon for programs like “iCarly,” (most recently “iParty with Victorious”. The episode drew 7.316 million viewers, making it the highest rated television program for the week), “Victorious” and “Zoey 101,” as well as MTV programs like “Laguna Beach,” and “The Hills,” “The Late Show With David Letterman” (CBS) and “Windfall” (NBC). Biography, A&E, Breyer’s Ice Cream and Bravo have also licensed tracks from the band’s first two releases.
This mainstream music placement success has had an unexpected benefit as well. Perez Hilton called the track “Obsessed With You,” an “indie pop gem” because it’s “so damn hooky” before featuring it on his site. Television cooking queen, Rachael Ray booked the band at her SXSW Feedback Festival last year alongside She & Him, Jakob Dylan, Dr. Dog and others. Additional notable fans include producer Steve Lillywhite, and singers Alexa Ray Joel and Lady Gaga.
The Orion Experience’s superbly crafted pop songwriting and irresistible hooks are the band’s calling card. Praised for their irreverence and enthusiasm both live and on record, the band showcases their orchestration and songwriting abilities on NYC Girl, while paying homage to the music they have loved for years.
The track “NYC Girl” highlights classic disco arrangements, with USA TODAY noting that it recalls a “70’s era Electric Light Orchestra”.
A ‘90s-era George Michael is the obvious influence for the hand-clapping stomp “Rollercoaster” and the gentle closing track “Sweet Friend” takes its flavor from Queen, complete with a Brian May guitar homage right in the gooey center.
Tracks included on NYC Girl are:
1. NYC Girl
2. Emerald Eyes
3. Vampire
4. Rollercoaster
5. Sweet Friend
