Indie, rock, pop and soul artists Gravy Flavored Kisses announced today the September 12th release date of their debut single “Chairman of the Board”. “It’s a song that was inspired by that mug shot of Frank Sinatra,” commented twenty six year old bandleader and songwriter Jared Castellaw.
“I noticed that picture in an episode of the Sopranos and I did a little research on it and found out that he was actually arrested for carrying on with a married woman. Then I kind of had the thought of, well, under what circumstances would that actually be considered appropriate? Usually with this sort of an affair someone is clearly doing something wrong. But, what of a younger woman married to a much older senile man who no longer has an outlet for her sexual desires? What then? What then is she meets a young twenty two year old Frank Sinatra and the rest is history. But I’m really happy with the feel and vibe of the track. Kyle Thompson at Iconic Audio really did a great job mixing it for us. We’re all stoked on this as our debut single and hope people enjoy it.”
Iconic Audio has worked with Akon, Unwritten Law, and producer Ruben Angel among many others. Paul Abbott of Zen Mastering mastered the single.
“Chairman of the Board” is an arousing and unique funky-pop blend of a danceable bass and drum driven groove, slamming electric guitar, soaring and ethereal brass, and at its core a powerful duet sung by Castellaw and twenty three year old female vocal artist and band mate Nasimiyu Murumba. Chairman swells, builds and releases, back and forth between a melancholy low reminding the octogenarian-husband-third-party-to-the-dalliance of the love he shares with his wife, and a funkalicious and thumping joust texturally reminiscent of some remixed and coked up Motown deep-cut crashed head first into Smells Like Teen Spirit covering what one can only assume to be a pre-coital repartee. It is chilling, provoking, and sexy.
Gravy Flavored Kisses consists of drummer Adam Baumol, trumpeter Rick Roff, trombonist Curtis Laub, bassist Damon Motto, vocalist Nasimiyu Murumba, and songwriter/guitarist/vocalist Jared Castellaw.
