Shoe designer Steve Madden launches music and lifestyle Web site

Renowned shoe designer Steve Madden today announces the launch of Steve Madden Music, a marketing initiative that aligns his brand with emerging artists. The layered strategy commences with a series of intimate tastemaker-driven live performances at the Steven by Steve Madden store on the Lower East Side. Madden plans to use his large network of retail stores, impressive online presence and viral marketing tools to help break some of the industry's best emerging talent. Madden will also launch a Music and Lifestyle driven website to help support this strategic plan.

An authentic message with music is not a far stretch for Madden, who has been influenced by music in his designs since his early years in the business.

"I started in the shoe business in the 1970s when I was 16, working as a stock boy," says Madden. "The rock and roll stars at that time - Bowie, Led Zeppelin, Elton John - fused fashion and music unlike anything I'd seen before. I was fascinated by it. Today's music is still my muse - it's in the DNA of what I do."

Madden has brought on music industry veteran David Passick to guide the program, along with marketing heavyweights Giant Step who will co-present, produce and execute the event series. Madden will also tap into Giant Step's database of tastemakers to introduce the artists in the series.

"The association between Steve Madden and music makes sense for the brand and its constituency," says Passick. "The music industry is searching for new ways to reach the consumer and Steve Madden aims to supply one. With the company's global recognition and online presence, this marketing platform can play an integral role in making music from emerging talent accessible to the consumer."

Capitol Music Group recording artist Katy Perry will launch the new program on June 9th with full scale retail and online components beginning in conjunction with her album release, One of the Boys, on June 17th.

The monthly series will continue with S-Curve artist Little Jackie on July 10th also in the Steven by Steve Madden store in the Lower East Side.
