Barynya brings Russian music and dance to Caltech

Barynya will present Russian music and dance on Friday, October 23, at 8 p.m. in Caltech’s Beckman Auditorium.

Russian folk dance and music trio Barynya was founded in 1991 by accordion player Mikhail Smirnov, dancer Sasha Anchutin, and folk singer Natalia Demidova. The first show took place at the Russian restaurant Fyodoroff in New York. In 2002 balalaika virtuoso Alex Siniavski Joined Barynya as musical director, and in 2003 Russian dancers Olga Chpitalnaia and Vitaly Verterich began performing with the group.

The name of the ensemble comes from the fast Russian traditional dance with which the original trio began all their programs.

Tickets to this performance are priced at $26.00, $21.00, and $16.00; youth (high school age and younger): $10.00. Senior rush tickets will go on sale for $10.00, beginning one-half hour before the performance (subject to availability). Tickets can be purchased at the Caltech Ticket Office, 332 S. Michigan Avenue, Pasadena.
