Jonathan Goldman releases book on the Lost Chord

Musicians have been writing about it for centuries. Leonard Cohen in his song "Hallelujah" wrote about “a secret chord” that “pleased the Lord”. The Moody Blues “In Search of The Lost Chord” explored this quest for a universal sound: “The Earth turns slowly round—far away the distant sound is with us everyday”. Even Sir Arthur Sullivan, of the 19th century song writing team of Gilbert and Sullivan wrote about “The Lost Chord” that was “Like the sound of a great Amen” and “quieted pain and sorrow”. This song became one of the first recordings ever made by Thomas Edison’s phonograph technology in 1888. Musicians have been searching for that secret sound that can heal and transform. But does it really exist?

According to Sound Healing Pioneer Jonathan Goldman, the sound not only exists, but it’s something he discovered 15 years ago. Goldman, a Grammy-nominated musician, teacher and pioneer in the emerging field of Sound Healing is the author of numerous award winning CDs and books including THE 7 SECRETS OF SOUND HEALING. When Goldman made this monumental discovery, it was so powerful, he contemplated whether he could share it with the world.

In his new book, THE DIVINE NAME: The Sound That Can Change the World (Hay House/ $17.95), he reveals this Lost Chord that when intoned, has the potential to transform our lives and the planet. This sound, originally understood as the secret name of God and found in ancient religious texts, had been banned, suppressed and ultimately forgotten and lost for centuries. In this seminal book, Goldman reveals how this ancient sound when vocalized, irrespective of our religious beliefs, has the power and potential to usher in a new era of healing, peace and unity.

Goldman is an internationally recognized pioneer in the field of sound healing. Students and supporters of his work include Carly Simon, Alanis Morissette and Rick Allen of Def Leppard.

Once a rock n’ roll musician, Goldman had a life-changing experience over 30 years ago that caused him to investigate the healing and transformational effects of sound.

“I’ve always been intrigued by the concept of a Lost Chord—the idea of a universal sound that could heal and transform, I never imagined I’d uncover it. Then, 15 years ago, I awakened from a dream and received this startling sound. It was the intonation of a particular sequence of vowels that created the Divine Name—the personal name of God found in the Bible. This sound was lost for more than 2,500 years. It was an astounding discovery.”

Goldman continues, “This universal sound—this lost chord—was not a spoken word, but a vocalization that sounded extraordinarily like the name of the creator God in the Old Testament— the foundational book of the Abrahamic traditions, that is responsible for over half the planet’s religions. I’d already been exploring sacred sounds for over 15 years and this was the most powerful and profound sound I’d ever experienced. It still is. Because the vowel sounds in the human voice create harmonics—multiple tones—the Divine Name truly is the Lost Chord!”

Goldman made this discovery in the early 1990s, but put off sharing it with all but his best students until friend and colleague, Gregg Braden, began teaching information from his books THE GOD CODE and THE ISSIAH EFFECT, which dealt with the power of prayer, as well as, the Divine Name. Goldman began to openly teach his material and then decided to share this information, as well as, the technique for readers to learn how to make this extraordinary sound.

Included with THE DIVINE NAME book is an “Instructional CD” designed to easily facilitate the learning of this “lost sound of God”.

“When vocalized, this sound has the ability of creating vibrations from the top of the head to the base of the spine and then back again. Because it is composed of vowel sounds which are found in all different religions, spiritual paths, cultures and traditions, the Divine Name cannot be confined to any particular group or organization. Additionally, these sounds when properly intoned seem to have the ability to affect everyone the same way--creating the same sort of resonance for all,” shares Goldman.

“I know that musicians, music lovers and anyone interested in the power of sound to heal and transform will be amazed by the effects of the Divine Name. If we can gather in community for global concerts such as LIVE AID and all the follow ups to this amazing world wide event and sound the Divine Name together, it has the potential of unifying and healing this planet.”

Besides the spiritual effects of self-created sound, the Divine Name, can be used to create extraordinary health benefits for us on a personal level. Goldman believes that if we learn to create this sound we’ll activate our innate connection to the Divine; generating major positive changes and transformational healing for ourselves and the world.
