A Man of Steel (Strings, That Is)
When he picked up the guitar as a little kid, Dan Crary never imagined that it would become the universal instrument it has become in his lifetime. “For three years, I was the only kid I knew who played the guitar,” Dan recalls. “Now, I hardly know anyone who doesn’t play!” Today Dan Crary is known internationally for his memorable concerts, a couple-dozen award-winning recordings, pioneering work as a founder of the “Flatpicking” method of guitar, and his world-touring concerts in over thirty countries.
Friday through Sunday June 4-6, Crary will present “TWAAANG,” featuring his signature playing and many of his great stories from the guitar’s long and “somewhat outrageous” past. It’s a multi-media concert, with archival films and rare photographs to help tell the stories. The music looks back to some of the greats that created the current age of the guitar, including Jimmie Rogers, Doc Watson, Hank Snow, The Carter Family, Woody Guthrie, and many others.
In a world of differences where it’s hard to find common ground, Dan Crary’s “TWAAANG” is a concert that celebrates both the beauty and universality of the steel-string guitar. As Guitar Player Magazine put it:“…incredible dexterity and tongue-in-cheek humor; must be heard to be believed.”
