Aspca seeks support for humane egg bill

ASPCA Urgent Alert

Dear California Animal Advocates,

In 2008, Californians overwhelmingly voted in favor of Proposition 2, the Prevention of Farm Animal Cruelty Act, which outlawed keeping California's egg-laying hens in ultra-cramped "battery cages." By 2015, all eggs produced in California will come from hens who are housed with enough room to stand up, turn around and spread their wings. This is a victory for both hens and people, as eggs produced in more humane conditions are found to pose less risk to human health.

A new bill, Assembly Bill 1437, would require that all whole eggs sold in California come from farms that meet this same standard. The bill has already passed both houses of the California Legislature by large margins with bipartisan support. AB 1437 is now in the hands of Governor Schwarzenegger, who has only two weeks to sign it into state law.

What You Can Do
Please be the animals' voice and contact Governor Schwarzenegger to urge him to sign AB 1437 into law. Visit the ASPCA Advocacy Centertoday to email the Governor on behalf of this bill.
