“La Habra Music Center celebrating fifty years helping you play music. That’s the way we answer the phone around here. After all, you only have a fifty year anniversary once”. said Steve Capalbo, owner of La Habra Music Center. “Plus the store is planning a big party to celebrate on Saturday August 28th”.
The all day festivities will feature live entertainment, city officials, music business types and a few special guests.
The fact that a family owned music store has been around for a half a century even made The National Association of Music Merchants take notice. At the NAMM 2010 convention held in Anaheim earlier this year, La Habra Music Center was honored for being in business for fifty years. Steve Capalbo along with his son Stevie accepted the honor in the Anaheim Hilton ballroom in front of a full house of music industry representatives.
Back in July 1960 Toby Capalbo (Steve’s father) opened the store in the small orange County suburb. Over the years, the torch was passed to Steve who grew the business and opened a second store in Corona with the help of his son Stevie. That’s three generations of music retail experience over a five-decade span.
“Our family has experienced many changes over the last half century. When my dad first opened the door, everything was done on a handshake. Then the big music chain store changed everything, the deal became the thing, not the music. Now with the Internet, everybody becomes an expert. But you can’t play an instrument on the web. Our lesson program and instrument selection has kept us in business all these years”.
The store is staging a huge celebration on Saturday August 28th from 10am to 6pm.
