Support local music with Sierra Madre Sue



FYI - I changed the Music News format just a bit and listed the recurring events at the top, separately from the individual listings below. That way, in the event I don't have time to compile an update before this list runs out, you won't be completely without information! I know how depressed some of you get when that happens! So here ya go.....

My music "Pick of the Week" is this Saturday, August 7th at the American Legion in East Pasadena, where you can see four of my favorite local bands and many special guests for no cover charge. All details are below....

RECURRING EVENTS:

WEDNESDAY - "QUIZZIDGE" - moved to Wednesday nights, August 4, 11, 18 and 25* at 8:00pm, until after Labor Day. Hosted by Deanna Cogan @ Cafe 322. $2 per person to play/up to 4 on a team. FRIDAY - BARRY SCHWAM (the Thermin guy) "I play to backing tracks almost every Friday night (the 4th Friday of each month excepted) @ the yogurt shop in Sierra Madre's Kersting Court, "Yogurt and More", from 7 to 9pm. I play to about 50 or 60 cover tracks. I even have a following! My slogan is: Come to Yogurt and More, to hear music on the Theremin, and get your culture."

WED. 8/4 - not sure what the name of the band is, but Peter Burke, John Wood, Lance, etc. are @ the Old Towne Pub tonight playing songs from a recording they made 2 years ago, and I believe they'll have CDs for sale? Sorry the info. is a bit sketchy... corner of Fair Oaks & Union, behind the Container Store. 9pm I'm assuming.

THURS. 8/5 - NEW ASTROTURF @ CAFE 322 in SIERRA MADRE, 7:30 - 10:30pm. All ages welcome - bring the family for dinner. Full bar & great Italian food! 322 W. Sierra Madre Blvd. 626-836-5414. SAT. 8/7 - SIERRA MADRE SUE'S HAWAII FIVE-0 BIRTHDAY BASH @ THE AMERCIAN LEGION IN EAST PASADENA, 5pm - midnight. All are welcome, no cover charge. Hawaiian food & beverages available for purchase, to support the Legion's barstool fund. 4 LIVE BANDS: SNOTTY SCOTTY & THE HANKIES, HORSES ON ASTROTURF, MAX BUDA BAND, CRANE LAKE SERENADERS, and MANY SPECIAL GUESTS! 179 N. SAT. 8/7 - WRECK 'N' SOW @ Farnsworth Park amphitheater in Altadena, 7 - 9pm. Part of the Altadena Sheriff Support Group summer concert series, and if you've never been to this venue, pack a picnic and come on out! This is a very cool old amphitheater and it's a wonderful place to enjoy a summer evening show. Admission is FREE and there is lots of good seating. SAT. 8/7 - OPEN MIC NIGHT @ THE FRET HOUSE IN COVINA. 309 N. Citrus Ave. (626) 339-7020. Always on the first Saturday of the month, and just one dollar for performers or audience. Sign-up starts at 7:30. If there aren't enough slots for everybody they'll make a list for the next month, and call you. Each act gets two songs or ten minutes, whichever comes first. SUN. 8/15 - Movie Night @ Nature Friends in Sierra Madre Canyon, featuring "The Good The Bad and the Ugly" at 8pm. Doors open at 7:00. Suggested Donation $3; Popcorn will be provided; Drinks available for sale. You can bring your own snacks. The event will include a chili cook-off and Live Western Music to set the mood. TUES. 8/17 - MURPHY'S FLAW @ the Coffee Gallery Backstage in Altadena. This is a cavalcade of mando stars and other pickers gathered to bid adieu to Matthew Witler as he goes off to Berklee School of Music in Boston. It will be, as Matt says, "insane." And we expect to finally record our first CD that night! $15 gets you in for a fantastic night of entertainment which ends abruptly with the appearance of the Flaw. Still, it's only $15!
