The Southern California members of the California Chapter of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), the ASMBS Foundation and Obesity Action Coalition (OAC) would like to announce the upcoming Walk from Obesity to be held in Conjunction with the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders’ (IFSO) Annual Meeting.
The Walk from Obesity is a rally and symbolic Walk designed to raise awareness of obesity and its consequences and treatments. The event will take place on Saturday, September 4, from 7 am to 9 am, at the Shoreline Park Lighthouse at Rainbow Harbor.
Long Beach, CA, residents, IFSO attendees, healthcare professionals, family, friends and many others are encouraged to join the Walk and raise awareness of the disease of obesity.
“We are thrilled to be hosting the Long Beach Walk in conjunction with the IFSO Annual Meeting. This will give the Walk from Obesity a great opportunity to have healthcare professionals from around the world be a part of it. The Walk is an excellent event for us to raise awareness of obesity in cities all throughout the United States,” said Joe Nadglowski, ASMBS Foundation Executive Director.
Obesity is a serious health epidemic affecting one in three Americans. It is estimated that more than 93 million Americans are obese, with that number predicted to climb to 120 million in the next five years. In order to address this epidemic, the Walk from Obesity aims to raise awareness of the disease of obesity.
