X Japan made its U.S. concert debut at Lollapalooza this past Sunday, and an ABC "World News with Diana Sawyer" crew was there to record the historic event. The Chicago Sun-Times called the band's performance "a spectacular, almost operatic performance of big ballads and speed metal." Time Out Chicago's review thanked Lollapalooza's co-founder Perry Farrell for booking "the coup of the festival," and USA Today wrote, "The metal-pop-punk was fast and furious," describing the drumming of band leader Yoshiki as "Keith Moon on Red Bull."X Japan, one of the most successful rock bands in Japanese history, has its sights set on America, with its first U.S. tour and English-lyrics album coming this Fall. ABC-TV's Dan Harris sat down with X Japan's Yoshiki in Chicago, to talk about that, and more.
