End o' Week Musings

I have already started my slide into the weekend.. but I digress...

Last Saturday I went to Carin and Tom's with my friend Louise in tow. Louise is an artist and may be doing some work for Carin, which is pretty cool. We finished our visit with a meal at Stox and a soak in the hot tub. Not a bad day if you ask me.

Wednesday, I met Carin, Tom, Byron and Terri at Maggie's in Santa Fe Springs for "buy a drink, get the buffet" or as we affectionally call it Cheap Bastard Night. The venue was also collecting for Toys for Tots, so we had brought toys, games and art supplies to find happy homes. The buffet offering was quite good- lots of pasta this time, but also nice cheeses and a good veggie tray.

After dining, I was the only one brave enough to go back to Carin and Tom's for the hot tub. It was a cold night, but not in the tub! We had a wonderful soak, graced by Bailey's and cigars.

Last night Louise and I went to the Artists' Reception at McGinty's Gallery at the End of the World. The place was jumpin'. There's a terrific array of art on display, HB3 was playing on stage and there were lots of interesting people to chat with.

This is the final show at GATOW, as the space is closing. I will be dancing with my swords there tonight, accompanied by drummer Ric Sarabia and friends. The Subs, who play almost any request and then some, and bluesmen Chico's Bail Bonds will also perform. Here's the skinny:

I won't be in the office Monday, so I doubt I will blog. I'm sorry but I know this weekend will wear me out. I plan to sleep in and lounge around. The rest of the week will be peppered with interviews and salted with writing. The sugar will be on Dec. 10, when I'll be going to Arcadia Blues Club to see the Bobby Bluehouse Band and Joe Walla... oh, and I'll be dancing in between sets. More info on that next week.

In rotation this week: Terrible Things, Jeffrey Bayless, Tribe of Gypsies, Taylor Swift and Gwar (for stories, reviews and cool photos of Terrible Things and Gwar, visit www.DaBelly.com and click on the TT feature and Guts & Glory).

Photos we got 'em: Just a few animal pix.

Thought o' the week: Relish history. We all have moments that we know are extra special. For example, this will be the last time I dance at McGinty's Gallery at the End of the World. I plan to make it my best performance there ever and will try to remember each moment.

I could easily cry about this too, as the artists and staff at the gallery have made me feel at home~ they are my extended family. I could cry, but instead I'm going to savor every minute at the gallery this weekend. The closing of one of the most innovative and creative venues in the area is historic. It is something that people will talk about in the years to come, "Were you there?.."

We all have doors that close or moments that are lost forever, but instead of bemoaning them, hold them in your heart like a precious jewel. As long as they are remembered, they are still alive and vibrant. What history do you relish?
Keep on rockin'
Mickie
