Friends ...

It has come to my attention that there is actually another year planned after we nail the lid closed on this MoFo. You would think that we would learn our lesson and the clock would just run out. That a bell would ring softly, and we would look at each other, and as smiles spread upon our faces, we would become transparent and flicker out. And a clean breeze would blow amber leaves down the deserted street as buildings began to crumble. But NO! We are expected to slog through another entire cycle. Maybe more!

So, having explored my options, I don't see any recourse other than to stare 2011 in it's blurry little wake-up eyes and put it on notice. This Year Is OURS!!! So gird up your loins, or the loins of a friend, and join us as we kick the New Year off. And I do mean kick.

We will gather at The Church in Ocean Park in Santa Monica, at 2:30 Sunday afternoon. Food will arrive, as will a sound system. And in no conceivable order, Brad Colerick, Phil Ward, and myself will perform half-hour sets. I don't know or care if we are backed by our bands. It makes no difference. It will be great.

Then we shall eat, carelessly, with no regard to our waistlines, laughing and talking with our mouths full. And THEN we will circle the chairs as if they are wagons pin-cushioned with the arrows of the past year, and sing lustily at one another. Or tell stories. Or share a poem. Or gesticulate wildly for no apparent reason.

Also, if any of you would like to declare publicly the way in which you intend to kick 2011's narrow little butt, come up on stage during my set. My microphone is yours. Get it off your chest. (hostility is optional)

We're taking donations at the door to pay for the food and give a little to Pastor Janet's good works. Bring a favorite beverage. We'll bring ice and cups.

Alexia, Marilyn and the gang will be there to keep us from hurting ourselves.
