Descanso Gardens offers nature painting and floral design classes

Painting Nature, 10 a.m.-noon, Jan. 8:
Descanso Gardens, 1418 Descanso Drive, La Cañada Flintridge. Learn the finer points of painting the natural world from local artist Jay R. Ewing in this six-week series of watercolor classes for beginning and intermediate students. Cost: $120 general, $90 members. No walk-ins. Registration required: (818) 949-7980.

Floral Design, 1-4 p.m., Jan. 9:
Descanso Gardens, 1418 Descanso Drive, La Cañada Flintridge. Floral designer and instructor Ray Tucker teaches floral design principles and flower arranging for all occasions in this four-week class. Students should bring scissors and gloves. Cost: $120 general, $95 members, plus a $75 materials fee made payable to instructor on the first day of class. No walk-ins. Established as a public garden in 1954, Descanso Gardens is located at 1418 Descanso Drive, La Cañada Flintridge, near the interchange of the 2 and 210 freeways. The Gardens are open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily except Christmas Day. Parking is free. Admission fees are $8 for adults; $6 for seniors and students; $3 for children 5 to 12, and free for members and children 4 and younger. Fees for classes and programs include Gardens admission.
