During the holidays, it's easy to lose focus on theimportant things: family, friends and togetherness. In the spirit of putting the "happy" in the holidays, UC Cooperative Extension will host an event, "The Simple Joys of the Holidays," suggesting ways to reduce stress; make every dollar count; make easy, inexpensive, homemade gifts; and offer recommendations for holiday safety.
The general public is invited to attend a hands-on, interactive, festive event. Participants will learn about healthier options to traditional holiday recipes, household fire safety tips and ways to stay active during the season. Equally important, they will learn ways to make healthy choices on a tight budget.
When: Friday, December 10, 2010
Time: 9:30 am to 12:00 pm
Where: UC Cooperative Extension (demonstration kitchen)
4800 E. Cesar E. Chavez Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90022
(Light refreshments will be served)
"Reducing stress and making healthy lifestyle choices are important to long-term health and well-being. The holidays can be an overwhelming time of year for many, resulting in poor eating habits and lack of physical activity," says Brenda Roche, Cooperative Extension's nutrition, family and consumer science advisor.

As part of the University of California, Cooperative Extension was established in 1914 to connect local communities to their state's land grant university. An office in each county in California responds to the changing needs of its local populations, designing and carrying out research-based programs in the areas of food, health, agriculture and the environment.
