The Groundlings launch new show in LA

Looking for a rebellious night full of excitement, laughter and criminal behavior? Come drop the soap at The Groundlings Theatre’s new main stage show, GROUNDLINGS STATE PENITENTIARY and get locked up with your favorite cellmate in this big house of original sketches and improvs. You will love warden director Jim Rash and his cast of inmates: Jillian Bell, Tim Brennan, Laurel Coppock, Ryan Gaul, Jill Matson-Sachoff, Laird McIntosh, Charlotte Newhouse, Jeremy Rowley, Annie Sertich, and Alex Staggs. They are guaranteed to be the best prison gang you will ever join! The Groundlings have catapulted the careers of such comic geniuses from film and television as Jennifer Coolidge, Will Ferrell, Ana Gasteyer, Kathy Griffin, Cheryl Hines, Chris Kattan, Lisa Kudrow, Jon Lovitz, Michael McDonald, Paul Reubens, Maya Rudolph, Mindy Sterling and Kristen Wiig, among others. The new Judd Apatow film, Bridesmaids, features Groundlings alumni Kristen Wiig, Annie Mumalo, Maya Rudolph, Melissa McCarthy, Michael Hitchcock and Wendi McLendon-Covey as well as current Groundlings Mitch Silpa, Jillian Bell, David Hoffman and Ariane Price. The film will be in theatres May 13th. In addition to being comedy performers, Groundlings members and alumni hold writing positions on many of Hollywood’s top television and film projects. GROUNDLINGS STATE PENITENTIARY opens Friday, May 6th at 8:00pm and runs through Saturday, July 9th. Previews are Fridays, April 1st, 8th, 15th, and 22nd at 10:00pm and Friday and Saturday, April 29th and 30th at 8:00pm and 10:00pm. The regular schedule is Friday’s at 8:00 p.m. and Saturday’s at 8:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. Ticket prices are $18.00.
