The band is also pleased to announce their new management team, Outerloop Management (Dying Fetus, Veil of Maya, Cephalic Carnage). “From the moment when we first saw this band performing in a gritty club in the heart of inner-city Baltimore, I knew there was something special and unique about them,” states manager Derek Brewer of Outerloop Management. “In my opinion their live performance, stage presence and professionalism far surpassed many of the more established bands out there now and some of these guys weren’t even out of high school! They quickly became a must-have client for Outerloop Management and I am very excited to be working with them.”

Lead songwriter, vocalist and guitarist Parker Jameson and drummer Spencer Weidner formed MASSAKREN in 2008 after they both began seriously studying music and considering it as their future careers. The guys were always interested in metal and melodic music, and their tastes eventually lead them to esteemed symphonic death and black metal artists like Children of Bodom, Nightwish, Ensiferum, and Dimmu Borgir. By the age of 14, Weidner was performing entire discographies of bands like Dimmu Borgir and Children of Bodom on his set. At 17, Jameson was studying the sounds of Paul Gilbert, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, and Yngwie Malmsteen. Combined with these shred influences, the black metal sounds of Dimmu Borgir and the orchestral layers of Nightwish epitomized the central stepping stones of MASSAKREN.

At the age of 18, Jameson began attending Indiana University while Spencer stayed rooted in Chicago. “My main reason for wanting to go to school was really to meet other people that shared my musical taste and views, and knowing that Indiana University was one of the top schools for music programs in the U.S., it would be easier for me to find people that shared my preferred musical taste,” states Jameson.

Within the first week of moving into school, Jameson set up the extent of his equipment in his dorm room. Three doors down from his room, future guitarist Charlie Federici was fostering the same dreams, unbeknownst to Jameson. Through mutual friends, the two were introduced and began to practice together. Ultimately, Jameson and Federici drafted the same vision; to sequentially become the most successful black metal band they could be.

After solidifying the line up of Jameson, Weidner and Federici, MASSAKREN was still in need of a touring bassist. After searching online, the band discovered bassist Justinian Dispenza and noticed that he also attended Indiana University. After meeting and practicing several songs together, the existing band decided to include Justinian in their quest for greatness.

If you haven’t heard of MASSAKREN yet, be prepared. The name will soon echo through the corners of the rock clubs, pages of the magazines, and speakers of the headphones of every metal fan. Young ambition coupled with commanding talent is guaranteed to skyrocket MASSAKREN into stardom in this new decade of heavy metal.
