Jon Sandler & the Fancy Band wins Hornitos Tequilia Mariachi Mash Up contest

A month after Hornitos Tequila kicked off their new Mariachi Mash Up competition (which featured Cheap Trick in an unforgettable mariachi rendition of their hit single “Surrender”), Hornitos is proud to announce Jon Sandler and the Fancy Band as the official winners of their first ever Mariachi Mashup contest with their inspired cover of “Young Folks” by Peter, Bjorn, and John.

Based in Brooklyn, New York, Jon Sandler and the Fancy Band went Horns Up! in their

of “Young Folks” by Peter Bjorn and John. In addition to receiving a $10,000 cash prize, Jon Sandler and the Fancy Band will also be featured in the coveted “Backbeat” section of Billboard magazine.

Jon Sandler and the Fancy Band won over the judging panel with their use of Spanish lyrics, trumpets, maracas and even sombreros in their spicy rendition of the indie favorite “Young Folks.” Jon Sandler recently released an EP titled “The Fancy Band,” and the group—signed with super duper records— has opened for several influential musicians, and in October played two official CMJ showcases in NYC. The band consists of Jon Sandler (lead vocals and guitar), Sam Merrick (drums), Chris Kelly (bass) and Dominic Fallacaro (piano).
