Boogie under the sun and stars to music from top national and local acts, jam in music workshops, stretch in a yoga class, relish the community vibes, munch on delicious fare from one of the many food vendors, and purchase handcrafted art at the Arts & Crafts Marketplace. All this can be experienced in one spectacular summer day at the Live Oak Music Festival taking place in the Santa Ynez Valley, in the hills above Santa Barbara, on Friday, June 17, Saturday June 18 or Sunday June 19 (Father’s Day).
Most folks know Live Oak music Festival as a three-day camping event, however if camping is not in the cards, “Oakies” can simply spend the day enjoying musical genres ranging from folk, bluegrass and gospel (Mavis Staples) to Tex-Mex (Texas Tornadoes), boogie-woogie, jazz and Reggae (Toots and the Maytals). There are plenty of activities for children as well, from storytelling to juggling to robot-making workshops. Only a little more than a one-hour drive from San Luis Obispo, day participants can arrive as early as 9 a.m., and leave as late as midnight!
For those who just aren’t into camping, but would like to spend the night nearby, hotel and cabin options abound, from rustic cabins at Lake Cachuma to a variety of hotels in Solvang or even Santa Barbara.
Day passes are available online at www.liveoakfest.org or directly at the gate, and are $42 for adults and $17 for children under 12; tots under 4 years old are free for camping and day passes. Adult full-festival (camping) passes cost $122, teen passes are $77, and children under 12 years old get in for $37.
For a complete schedule visit www.liveoakfest.org.
All festival proceeds benefit KCBX Public Radio, which serves San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties. The Live Oak Music Festival is a three-day concert and camping event held every year on Fathers’ Day weekend. Live Oak Music Festival tickets and complete festival information are available at www.liveoakfest.org or by calling 805-781-3030.
