Mike Keneally of Zappa to perform in LA Nov. 18

Since performing as Frank Zappa's "stunt guitarist" and keyboard virtuoso in Zappa's final touring band, world-renowned multi-instrumentalist and composer Mike Keneally has released 20 well-reviewed recordings of his own and has toured widely with Steve Vai and Joe Satriani, among others, and his own Mike Keneally Band. On November 18, 2011 at REDCAT in Los Angeles, Keneally's The Universe Will Provide will have its long-awaited U.S. premiere with an opening trio set by Keneally (guitar, keyboard, vocals), Rick Musallam (guitar, bass, drums, vocals), and Doug Lunn (bass, drums).

Commissioned in 2002 by the Netherlands' NPS Radio for the Metropole Orkest, Keneally crafted The Universe Will Provide, a composition for guitar, electric piano, and a 52-piece orchestra. His first composition for orchestra, The Universe Will Provide features a gripping, vivid blend of orchestral timbres and a traditional fusion rhythm section incorporating sound collages. Keneally even adds more than a few pop-cultural and musical references from Stanley Kubrick and Wendy Carlos to Looney Tunes.
