AUDIENCE FAVORITE LOOKING FOR PAUL

IN LOS ANGELES FOR

TWO NIGHTS ONLY!

REDCAT presents the United States premiere of Songs at the End of the World, an internationally theatrical event by explosively inventive Dutch theater ensemble Wunderbaum. Performances will be held at REDCAT (Roy and Edna Disney/CalArts Theater) Saturday, April 28 and Sunday, April 29, 2012.

For its third appearance in Los Angeles, Wunderbaum merges with unpredictable rock trio Touki Delphine and other guest musicians to create an absurdly fantastical concert-like evening composed of songs, stories and fantasies partly inspired by imagery from Werner Herzog's Antarctica documentary Encounters at the End of the World. In oversized snowsuits and a variety of more fanciful costumes, eight performers present a funny and rhythmic song-cycle based on their childhood dreams and hopes. One dreams of flying, another fantasizes about living with jellyfish under the sea. Each imaginary life-choice is illustrated with humorous and touching lyrics, performed in English, and imaginative musical compositions.

Wunderbaum is a group of actors based in Rotterdam, Holland that work collectively, together with designers, a dramaturge, musicians, writers, photographers and film producers, to create original productions for theaters and other locations. Inspired by the energy that is released between our personalities and the outer world, their way of working is chameleonic and takes on many shapes. Past productions at REDCAT included audience favorite from last season Looking for Paul and the 2006 presentation of Lost Chord Radio, which prompted Mark Swed of the Los Angeles Times to write, "[Wunderbaum] is political and raw, its actors also rockers."
