The California Art Club will present the exhibition The California Coast at its gallery at the historic Old Mill from May 1 to August 26. A reception with the 35 exhibiting artists will be held on Thursday, May 3, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
The 102-year-old arts organization unveils this exhibition, which features nearly 50 paintings that spotlight the natural beauty which defines the 840 miles where the Golden State meets the Pacific Ocean, on the heels of the landmark deal approved by the California Coastal Commission to permanently preserve a stretch of Northern California coastline in Santa Cruz County.
Club artists have been active in creating paintings of specific areas of the state in order to call attention to both their awe-inspiring vistas and efforts to preserve and protect these regions. Their paintings have supported preservation efforts of more than 50 different organizations, including the Catalina Island Conservatory, Heal the Bay, and the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy.
The imagery to be showcased in The California Coast ranges from Big Sur and the Isthmus of Catalina Island to the Malibu pier and Laguna Beach.
All of the participating artists in the exhibition are juried members of the California Art Club and include Jeannie Brunnick, John Brunnick, Cathey Cadieux, Larry Cannon, Donald W. Crocker, David Damm, Linda DuPas, Esther Engelman, Mark Fehlman, Frank Gannon, Andrea Gaye, Albert Handell, Carolyn Hesse-Low, Debra Holladay, Sibyl Johnson, Chuck Kovacic, Jim Lamb, Margot Lennartz, Frank Lennartz, Richard Lindenberg, Lee MacLeod, Sherrill Miller, Craig Nelson, Michael Obermeyer, Rita Pacheco, Richard H.
