JD Samson & Men to release new EP and tour

Brooklyn-based band/art/performance collective JD SAMSON & MEN release their new TIME EP on Tuesday, May 8 via MEN Make Music. This is the second of four EPs the band will release this year. After releasing the Jordan Lieb produced NEXT EP in February, the TIME EP with the tracks “Time”, “Take It Away” and “Make Him Pay” (AKA JK Remix) includes production work from CHAINS (which is Alex Suarez and Ryland of Cobra Starship).

“Working with Alex from CHAINS was an incredible collaboration. As our first real foray into production with an outside producer, we felt comfortable and excited to take the songs to a new level,” says JD who met CHAINS while writing with Cobra Starship earlier this year. JD Samson & MEN and CHAINS have got more tracks coming later this year!

The cover art is the works of JD’s high school friend Jim Drain, a visual artist who works in many different mediums. He has collaborated with Opening Ceremony on a season of knitwear and has been featured in the Whitney Biennial for his project, Forcefield. Jim is represented by the Greene Naftali Gallery in New York and will be featured at MOCA’s show Transmission LA: AV CLUB, which opens on Thursday April 20th with Santigold performing the opening event.

These four EP releases are true to the unique and collaborative style of earlier MEN productions, such as the partnership for a tour only split 7" with Brazil's CSS, and “Who Am I to Feel So Free” feat Antony (from Antony & The Johnsons).

JD Samson + MEN is LE TIGRE’s JD Samson and Michael O’Neill who focus on the energy of live performance and radical potential of dance music. The band has toured extensively all over the world, and will be through Europe this August, and U.S. in the Fall. Their music speaks of issues such as wartime economies, sexual compromise, and the demand for liberties through lyrical content and an inventive, high-energy stage show.

The group began in 2007 with the DJ/production/remix team of LE TIGRE members JD Samson and Johanna Fateman. With LE TIGRE on hiatus, when the duo began to write new songs, it made sense to merge their efforts with JD's other project HIRSUTE (Michael O'Neill, JD Samson, Emily Roysdon and Ginger Brooks Takahashi). Michael and JD now comprise the core of MEN, with Johanna Fateman and artist Emily Roysdon contributing as writers, consultants, and producers. The band enjoys changing the shape of the project and collaborating every tour with new instrumentalists and visual elements.
