The all-day, all-ages festival of sound takes place on Saturday, June 16 from 11 am until 11 pm throughout Downtown Pasadena. A list of confirmed acts follows. The final Make Music Pasadena lineup will total over 100 bands and include more than 150 free concerts throughout Pasadena with a mixture of Grammy-award nominees, platinum recording artists, and emerging homegrown talent crisscrossing in one day celebrating the spirit of music.
The twelve-hours of unparalleled musical programming will feature every kind of genre including classical, rock, indie rock, Latin, funk, folk and jazz, among others. Pasadena’s largest summer event will host performances in alleys, buses, churches, libraries, museums, rooftops, and other impromptu public spaces throughout Downtown Pasadena.
Unique outdoor performances will take place throughout the day from a quintet from the Pasadena Symphony performing in a popular Old Pasadena alley to the Johnny Mercer Children’s Choir comprised of 30 students from the Los Angeles Braille Institute who will perform heart felt classics at a neighborhood church. Pop-up stages will be scattered throughout the city including outdoor mini-recitals in parks and unconventional spaces. The Pasadena Arts Buses will also host live music onboard and will run free that day linking all the main stages.
In addition to two dozen smaller performance areas, Make Music Pasadena will feature an eclectic six main stage lineup featuring massively popular bands from around the world. The diverse lineup includes such acts as indie rock band Grouplove, Grammy award nominee Gustavo Galiando, indie pop sensation Cults, Dangermouse produced pop funk group Electric Guest, electro sensation Grimes, funk prodigy Dam Funk, local alt country group honeyhoney, French folk singer Soko, Cambodian local psychedelic rock band Dengue Fever and popular KCRW DJ Jason Bentley among others.
Make Music Pasadena is modeled on the Fete De La Musique event that started in Paris in 1982 as a way to celebrate music. In its 30th anniversary, Fete De La Musique has now spread to over 350 countries participating in World Music Day which falls on June 21st yearly. The aim of Make Music Pasadena is musical practices for all ages and from all cultural and social backgrounds. The festival creates an opportunity to celebrate the spirit of music and provide top quality programming at no cost to the audience.
