Wondering what to get Mom for Mother’s Day this year? Check out the Towne Singers’ concert at the Alex Theatre in Glendale! A treat for the whole family, the Towne Singers’ 25th anniversary show will ignite the stage with powerhouse pieces from the choir's rich history. From the stunningly powerful “Carmina Burana” to the wistful echoes of Ragtime's “Wheels of a Dream,” the Towne Singers will deliver their most ambitious concert yet.

Started in 1987 with just eight music-loving singers, the Towne Singers now stand over 100 members strong, delivering two performances each year to the foothill communities. They have also performed at Lincoln Center in New York City, three times at Carnegie Hall, and on tour in the British Isles. The group has been honored with citations of artistic excellence by the State of California and the City of La Cañada-Flintridge.

Specific highlights of the Silver Anniversary concert, aptly titled “25 Years,” include audience favorites from numerous past performances such as Eric Whitacre’s “Seal Lullaby.” Based on a story by Rudyard Kipling, the choir commissioned Whitacre to provide the musical arrangement. “i thank You God for most this amazing day,” with lyrics from a poem by e. e. cummings and music written by choir member and composer Ardell Hake, is another original piece commissioned by the choir. Other concert highlights will include pieces by renowned choral composers Morten Lauridsen and John Rutter, along with two spirited and compelling pieces from Latin America, a lively tune made famous by Duke Ellington, and many other treats. In short, there’s something for everyone.

In her fifth year directing the choir, conductor Beth Richey is delighted to be a part of the choir’s 25th anniversary concert. “The intention behind every performance,” she states, “is not only to present beautiful music but to be an inspirational force in the community.” A rare glimpse into the choir’s inner workings will be provided by brief but entertaining video footage interspersed throughout the performance.
