Salt Petal to tour SoCal in support of EP

Los Angeles acclaimed music collective Salt Petal to tour Southern California with a four date concert tour to support their upcoming EP release “Tip of the Sunfish”. The EP will be available via I-TUNES and other select retail outlets on Saturday, September 15th.

The tour includes a special performance at the Luckman Performing Arts Center kicking off the 2012-13 season. The band will perform a pre-show concert for Latin Grammy award winner Lila Downs on Saturday, September 22nd at 7:00 pm on the Levitt Pavilion stage.

Salt Petal’s unique blend of Argentinian folk, Brazilian tropicalia, Cumbia and up tempo indie rock captivates audiences globally. The band’s sound is one of the freshest to come out of Los Angeles in years, showcasing deep South American rhythms with vibrant indie pop harmonies and textures.

Formed in 2009, Salt Petal has quickly established a name for itself in the Los Angeles music scene playing key city festivals such as Make Music Pasadena, Los Angeles Times Festival of Books and the upcoming Echo Park Rising. In addition to SXSW, the band has also recently come back from a successful European tour.

“Tip of the Sunfish” is a five song EP showcasing the band’s distinctive sound. The EP includes the following songs: “Stay Awhile”, “Sabotage”, “Baby”, “Songs I Used to Love” and “Por la Luna.” The opening track “Stay Awhile” evokes the band’s many travels featuring a whimsical South American sound with pulsating accordions, intricate guitar riffs and heavy beats.

Meanwhile “Sabotage” showcases a darker side of the group with sultry vocals and moody guitars reminiscent of a classic film noir. On “Por la Luna”, the sole Spanish track, the band’s signature sound is at its best with roaring guitars, lush melodies, thumping keys, and irresistible beats. The band’s cover of “Baby” manifests the beautifully hypnotic vocals of Salt Petal’s lead vocalist Autumn Harrison. The melody is sweet and infectious and Harrison ’s delivery is flirtatious and charming. The final track and released single “Songs I Used to Love”, has an indie rock flare with catchy pop melodies that is a perfect summer anthem.

“Tip of the Sunfish” is produced by indie mastermind Raymond Richards (Local Natives, Henry Clay People) and mastered by Mark Chalecki (Los Abandoned, Le Butcherettes).

The four date Southern California tour takes place through the months of August beginning with a performance at local music festival, Echo Park Rising. Two dates in September in Hollywood at the ACME “Hollywood Saturday Night,” and Luckman Performing Arts Center sharing a bill with Lila Downs. The tour commences with a free performance in October at California’s largest art festival, the Pasadena Art Weekend.

Salt Petal is the brainchild of singer/accordion player Autumn Harrison and guitarist Rodrigo Gonzalez.
