SATURDAY March 23 - Shimmyshowcase celebrates our 10th ANNIVERSARY with “A Night at the Oscars!” Mark your calendars now, for your Shimmyshowcase coordinators are working extra hard to put together a very special event. Some of you already know that the catastrophic March 8 event that made the local news also made a huge impact on our dear Shimmyshowcase sister coordinator, Saviya. On that tragic day, three people were killed by gunfire in Los Angeles—one of whom was Saviya’s sister, who was mother to three small children, ages 8, 2 ½, and 9 months. Those children are now in the caring, loving hands of Saviya and her husband, Chris Laudermilk.
Saviya has given her heart and soul to Shimmyshowcase for many years, and Chris likewise has contributed his time and talents to create wonderful photography and videos of many memorable showcases. The March 23 showcase coordinators are dedicating this milestone anniversary event to our Shimmyshowcase sister, Saviya, as well as donations collected for the evening’s performances. Our special cast of amazing dancers-- past and present Shimmyshowcase coordinators Alexiis (with Bibi), Amber, Draca, and Jannah plus invited guest dancers Sarah al Nour, Bella, Kamar, Jayel, Shaheen (aka Aileen, who was to dance a duet with Saviya), and Beach Bellies--are certain to provide an evening of movie -inspired dance that will impress and delight you.
Don’t forget that we welcome our loyal audience to join in the act by dressing up in your Oscar finery and strolling down our red carpet. Whether your style is 40’s glam, or more avant-garde, we hope you’ll join in the fun by dressing in your Oscar best. Prizes will be awarded to the most glamorous, striking and adventurous attire. Please be sure to arrive early at Viento y Agua so you can show off your finery and grab something to eat and drink before the 7:00 p.m. show time!
