Skank at Club Nokia June 30

Having sold more than five million albums and performed at festivals around the world, look for Brazil’s SKANK to bring their Jamaican dancehall/Brazilian pop sound/electronic origins/new psychedelic and acoustic influences to CLUB NOKIA Tuesday, June 30. This show--co-produced with Brazilian Nites Productions--will mark the band’s first-ever Los Angeles performance as part of a run of U.S. dates which will also include stops in New York, Boston and Miami in support of their 10th album ESTANDARTE.

SKANK was formed in 1991 in Belo Horizonte (the same Brazilian city that gave the world names like Milton Nascimento and Sepultura) and self-released their debut album which caught the attention of Sony Music with whom the group teamed for 1994’s million selling Calango. They followed that with their third release O Samba Poconé which saw the band performing their own shows and playing at festivals where they shared the stage with Echo & The Bunnymen, Black Sabbath and Rage Against The Machine, among others in France, United States, Chile, Argentina, Switzerland, Portugal, Spain, Italy and Germany.

The single "Garota Nacional" was a success in Brazil, a hit in Spain (in its original version, in Portuguese) for three months straight and was the only Brazilian song featured in "Soundtrack for a Century," 100th anniversary celebration of Sony Music. With O Samba Poconé going on to sell 2 million copies sold in Brazil, SKANK was invited to represent its country on the Allez! Ola! Olé! album, the official Record of the 1998 Football World Cup. It was followed by the live CD and DVD Ao Vivo Ouro Preto, which produced another top-one song, "Acima do Sol,” and sold over half a million copies. SKANK released Cosmotron in 2003 and Radiola in 2004, each of which sold more than 210,000 copies; the band’s ninth album, Carrossel, was released in 2006.

The show will also feature a DJ set from Brazilian born Tatiana Fontes.

Growing up around music--her father was a nightclub owner and her brothers were professional DJs in her native Brazil--the successful/model actress pursued her longtime passion for music upon moving to Los Angeles. DJ gigs at the hottest clubs and parties around the world followed. Her style is a fusion of the 80’s and rock she grew up with, along with the house and electronic music from her days in Europe working as a model.

Tickets for the June 30 show go on sale this Thursday, June 11 at 10:00 AM. Advance ticket prices are $35 general admission floor, $45 general admission balcony and $50 VIP balcony.
