Johnny Ramone to be honored Oct. 3

The legendary guitarist JOHNNY RAMONE -- named one of the “10 Greatest Electric-Guitar Players” by Time magazine -- of beloved punk group The Ramones will be honored at a special tribute set for Saturday, October 3 at Hollywood Forever Cemetery (6000 Santa Monica Boulevard) in Los Angeles.

As part of the celebration for the 5th annual JOHNNY RAMONE TRIBUTE, Johnny’s wife Linda Ramone and Johnny Ramone Army Chief of Staff John Cafiero will be joined by original band member Tommy Ramone and CJ Ramone; they will all be on-hand to meet with fans and sign memorabilia.

“Johnny would have been really excited about this-- he loved being Johnny Ramone all day long,” explained Linda Ramone. “He would have loved to see Ramones fans paying tribute to him; as he always said, Ramones fans are the best fans in the world.”

“It is very gratifying to see Ramones fans gather together for events like this,” added Tommy Ramone. “It gives us the opportunity to keep the Ramones legacy alive and to share special times together.”

A special screening of the classic 1977 Ramones concert film It’s Alive will be shown against the 24 foot mausoleum wall, followed by a screening of one of Johnny’s favorite all-time movies, the 1968 cult horror classic Night of The Living Dead-- colorized and in 3D (fans will receive a free pair of JRA 3D glasses for the event). There will also be an art gallery featuring original paintings by Dee Dee Ramone and a rare Ramones memorabilia exhibit as well as surprise celebrity guests.

The special outdoor event is presented by Linda Ramone in association with the Johnny Ramone Army. Proceeds for the event will benefit the Johnny Ramone Research Fund at USC Westside Prostate Cancer Center lead by Dr. David Agus.

About the Ramones It’s Alive:
Filmed live in concert on New Year’s Eve in 1977 during the band’s incendiary performance at the Rainbow Theatre in London, It’s Alive features The Ramones in their prime. The full-length original concert captures the intensity and raw energy of the beloved group. Of the performance, Johnny Ramone had stated, “This is truly the Ramones at their best.” The entire concert was released in 1979 as the It's Alive album, and is considered one of the best live records ever.

About Night of the Living Dead:
George A Romero’s 1968 film Night of the Living Dead is considered to be one of the most influential independent films ever produced and was deemed historically and aesthetically important by the National Film Registry. Originally shot in black and white, the film was meticulously restored, colorized and converted into full 3D using PassmoreLab’s technology.
