Verbicide Magazine goes digital and to release compilation disc to benefit the National Association to Protect Children

Since founding editor Jackson Ellis and creative director Nate Pollard printed the first issue of Verbicide Magazine in 1999, the innovative publication has published 25 issues featuring music, visual art, book, film and entertainment criticism, fiction work, comics, photography and more from hundreds of contributors. Interviews with the likes of Zach Galifianakis, Joan Jett, Beastie Boys, Margaret Cho, Gorillaz, Billy West, Zoe Bell, Public Enemy, Henry Rollins, Dennis Lehane, The Mars Volta, Tera Patrick, Saul Williams, Tim O'Brien, Flogging Molly, Ralph Nader, Sleater-Kinney, Frank Welker, Anti-Flag, Uwe Boll, and many more have graced its pages. Now, on the year of the publication’s 10th anniversary, Ellis and Pollard have transitioned to a completely digital format by launching www.verbicidemagazine.com.

The site echoes the print magazine’s editorial focus and boasts two new features per week, new comics every Friday by Pollard (his two strips are called “Abstract Fantasy” and “Too Deep”), monthly columns by Larry Livermore, Douglas Noviell, Mark Huddle and others, constantly updated film, book, music and art coverage and over 600 pages of archived content, more of which is being added daily. And everything can be searched and found with ease!

Running Verbicide would be more than enough work for most, but Ellis and Pollard have also jointly operated Scissor Press, a sporadic publisher of CDs, digital music samplers and comic books, among other projects, since 2004.

PROTECT II

In 2005, Ellis wanted to give back. He spearheaded the production of and co-released, along with Fat Wreck Chords, “PROTECT: A Benefit For The National Association to Protect Children”, a 26-song CD that featured, among others, NOFX, Against Me, Anti-Flag, The Ergs and MxPx. Four years later, Scissor Press is now proud to announce a November 24th release date for “PROTECT 2: A Benefit For The National Association to Protect Children”, a co-release between Scissor Press and GC Records.

As with the initial compilation, 100% of the proceeds from “PROTECT 2” will go to the The National Association to Protect Children (www.protect.org ). Bands confirmed for the compilation include Greg Ginn (SST Records), Hit The Switch (Nitro Records), Yesterday’s Ring (Suburban Home), The Copyrights (It’s Alive Records), Holding Onto Sound (GC Records), Scuba (Midriff Records) and Fiction Reform (Basement Records).
