Shimmy Showcase Sunday

October 25: Xandra returns for a scary night of dance—no, not because she is dancing, but because it’s our annual Shimmyshowcase Halloween show! Guest dancers Meryem Vani, Jennelah, Draka, Tehani, and Nichole will thrill you with their beautifully haunting moves. Plus, an added Halloween treat—Christopher “Vlad” Villa will set the mood by reading his original vampire poetry. Please join us for a frightfully good show. Halloween costumes encouraged!

Everyone is invited to this cozy haven for a relaxing evening among friends. Select your favorite beverage, hot or cold, from an assortment of coffees, teas, smoothies or juice; add to that a tasty sandwich or pastry; and then seat yourself alongside our magic carpet to enjoy some really great dancing at NO cover charge!

The SHIMMY SHOWCASE begins at 7 p.m. at the I-CANDY COFFEE in Long Beach (1708 E. Broadway -- 562-437-3785).

November 1: GREAT NEWS! Elan (Marguerite & Rico) return to play for another Shimmyshowcase. This talented duo draws from a broad repertoire that encompasses not only middle eastern rhythms and melodies, but a whole lot more besides! Coordinator Saviya welcomes guest dancers Kalila, Saphira, Gaea, and Jessica for an amazing evening of top entertainment you won’t want to miss. Please bring friends and arrive early to hear some evocative music with vocals--International, classic jazz/ blues standards and international--as you enjoy refreshments from the menu. November 8: Please come down to I-Coffee for another evening of great belly dancing. Our lovely coordinator Abraiha welcomes guest dancers IrinaXara, Veronique, Tahma and Ana to dazzle you with exquisitely executed turns and undulations set off by dazzling costumes. Another beautiful evening of dancing in our friendly little Café Oasis in Long Beach—please come and join us!

November 15: Xandra welcomes Meryem Vani, Marlena, and Selene performing to Live Music by our guest musicians of Ansuz! Dancers who like performing to live music note this is your last Shimmyshowcase opportunity to do so in 2009, so please contact us at Shimmyshowcase@yahoogroups.com if you’d like a performance spot!

November 22: Shimmyshowcase presents the 6th annual “RAQS THE CASBAH” with Alexiis. Rollin" down the street, you hear your favorite song on the radio and you think to yourself, "I wanna dance to THAT!" This All-Star show Features LA Tribal, Tribe of Astarte, Brandi, Denise, Freya, Mahalia, Perizad and Alexiis, as they raq it to some mighty fine booty shakin', funktastic, soul-riffic tunes. Come early...seats will move fast for this show!

November 29: No Shimmyshowcase – Happy Thanksgiving!

December 6: Saviya celebrates her birthday month by presenting “Gypsy Fire” with guest dancer (and fellow Sagitarian) Jheri and her troupe JJ & the Habibis. Join them as they party like gypsies on an evening of Rom inspired dance.
December 13: As the holiday season begins, Xandra seeks dancers to share their good will with the patrons of I-Candy as only belly dancers can do--through shimmies and undulations. If you would like a performance spot, please contact us at shimmyshowcase@yahoogroups.com.

Since street parking around I-Candy Coffee is scarce, we recommend you try the perimeter of the park located two blocks west of I-Candy Coffee at Broadway and Cherry. Please try to arrive before 7:00 PM (earlier if you’re a performer!) as we try not to start the show until everyone has settled with a tasty beverage.
