Pearl Jam offers free mobile bootleg application

Today Pearl Jam is proud to unveil the new Pearl Jam Mobile Bootleg Application designed to give the band’s fans access to live music from their entire 2009 tour via a new, free mobile application on Verizon Wireless. From now until Pearl Jam’s November 29th show in Christchurch, New Zealand, fans will be able to download three live, exclusive bootleg tracks per show, wallpapers and more.
The new Pearl Jam Mobile Application is available first to Verizon Wireless BlackBerry® Tour customers and will roll out as part of V CAST Apps, Verizon Wireless’ planned mobile application storefront scheduled to launch later this year.
To get the application, fans can text “PJ” to “5509” and then click on the link from their BlackBerry Tour’s browser.
The Pearl Jam Mobile Bootleg Application is the ultimate backstage pass, giving fans access to live bootleg songs and images from nearly every show venue, as well as tour date information and individual set lists of which songs were played each night. The high-quality MP3 content, which features a mix of old and new songs, will be available after each performance – giving fans the experience of touring with the band all over the world.
The application was developed by Verizon and Tribal Technologies and extends the deep partnership between Pearl Jam and Verizon that began last year with their innovative mobile bootleg program. The program leveraged Verizon’s Mobile Recording Studio Bus to deliver live tracks to Verizon’s V CAST Music store after each show during Pearl Jam’s 2008 tour.
Earlier this month, Pearl Jam offered V CAST Music customers a sneak peak of the band’s then upcoming Backspacer album by releasing one exclusive ringtone and ringback tone each week until the album’s September 20th release.
"Pearl Jam is always looking for new and innovative ways to connect their fans with their most valuable asset -- the live performance," said Ten Club manager, Tim Bierman. "Having the ability to make high-quality live performances available through Verizon's app on the Blackberry Tour gives us yet another way to make this connection, and allows us to expand our mobile bootleg program into new territory."
"Pearl Jam continues to look for new and innovative ways to directly connect with their fans,” said Ed Ruth, Director, Strategic Business Development & Partner Management at Verizon. “They are a band that’s been very successful bucking the mainstream to do things their own way. We share that same pioneering spirit at Verizon, and are extremely proud to be partnering with them again to deliver their Mobile Bootleg Application. Via new mobile technology the application will allow fans to access the true essence of Pearl Jam like never before.”
One of the most popular and influential rock bands of the past two decades, Pearl Jam's mobile bootleg program follows on the heels of their self-released ninth studio album, Backspacer. With its best-selling debut Ten and its many hits, the Seattle quintet rose from the ashes of 80s Pacific Northwest combos Green River and Mother Love Bone. Songs from their debut, including "Jeremy," "Alive" and "Evenflow," have become modern classics. Challenging itself and its audience, the band has remained a major force in rock and roll, as much for its aggressive loyalty to its social and political principles and restless experimentation as for its rock radio staples and bestselling albums. Tracks like "Better Man," "Yellow Ledbetter," "Given to Fly," "World Wide Suicide" and the charity single "Last Kiss" continue to be heard on radios everywhere.
Throughout their years together, the band’s independent spirit has set them apart from other bands, leaving the record studios behind to produce the music they want. Backspacer. the band’s first self-released album, "has a pleasurable mix of lean, mean rock 'n' roll and pensive ballads that reflect both the state of the world and the band's place in it (Billboard)." The band’s ninth studio release "backspaces to that boyish spirit, with the shortest, tightest, punkiest tunes they've ever banged out (Rolling Stone)." Blender wrote, "It’s as if Pearl Jam is channeling Ernest Hemingway, with not a wasted breath or note anywhere to be found."

I am a huge Pearl Jam fan. Eddie Vedder has an amazing voice and McCready is one of the best guitar players in the world. They keep on rocking into their 40's, and I cant wait to see Yellow Ledbetter is person sometime soon!
