Sin City Social Club news

Let the celebrating begin...

Gorgeous days and blue skies here in Austin. LIFE IS GOOD! Having had so many good friends come thru town in the last week we've been reminded of how lucky we all are to stay connected thru this amazing musical community. Neither time nor distance really matter when it comes to the love, support and appreciation of those that inspire us to feel and create!

In the coming weeks we all celebrate the lives and music of the living and those that have passed on yet have left an indelible mark on our lives...may each day be a blessing and a celebration!

DAVE ALVIN & THE GUILTY WOMEN, EXENE CERVENKA, KELLY WILLIS, JON DEE GRAHAM, JESSE DAYTON, DAMON BRAMBLETT and members of DEAD ROCK WEST AMONG ARTISTS PERFORMING AMY FARRIS MEMORIAL SHOW
OCTOBER 21 @ THE CONTINENTAL CLUB IN AUSTIN

With the sudden and tragic death of Austin native and revered musician Amy Farris, it is announced today that friends and fellow musicians will come together for a night of music and remembrance on October 21, 2009 at Austin’s Continental Club.

The show will be opened at 9pm with a very special violin performance by some of Amy’s former students.

Amy Farris, 40, was an accomplished musician and a beloved human of light with a giant heart and sparkling eyes, packed into a pint-sized frame. An Austin native, Amy moved to Los Angeles to expand her music career and talent for playing violin, viola, cello, mandolin and some of the sweetest vocal harmonies ever recorded. Among the artists Amy worked with through the years include Ray Price, Kelly Willis, Brian Wilson, Bruce Robinson, Charlie Robinson, Alejandra Escovedo, Grant Lee Phillips, Stan Ridgway, Peter Case, Greg Dulli, and many others. Amy was seen and loved by millions having performed on Late Night with David Letterman, Conan O’Brien, The Grand Old Opry and Austin City Limits. Most-recently, Amy recorded and was touring the United States as one of Dave Alvin’s Guilty Women.

Cover for the show is a suggested donation of $10, with all proceeds going to Amy’s charity of choice, Hungry For Music. Hungry For Music is a non-profit organization whose mission is to inspire underprivileged children by bringing positive musical and creative experiences into their lives through musical instrument donations, concerts and workshops. There’s a powerful sweet spot at the juncture where rock’n’roll and country intersect, giving the music that results a double-whammy that can’t be denied. The Austin, Texas-based band Shurman hits that bulls-eye dead on packing a powerful punch of rock crunch, soulful grooves and deeply-rooted country twang.

Over the last decade the band has built a “reputation as a live powerhouse” (Amazon.com) that has scorched its music into the hearts and minds of a mushrooming cadre of followers that is about to hit critical mass. They’ve also garnered reams of press raves and won such advocates as Mike Campbell of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Ted Nugent and John Popper of Blues Traveler.
