Cathy & Marcy release "Meet the Instruments"

Mandolin. Banjo. Dulcimer. Ukulele. Conga drum. Washboard. You name it, Cathy & Marcy can play it. This Grammy Award winning musical duo is known for their musicianship and their respected career as folk and family music recording artists. Now, their new instructional DVD series Meet the Instruments (Cathy & Marcy's Songshop) introduce children to the joy of musical instruments, with a personalized instructional style that is the next best thing to a private lesson with these master artists.

The first two Meet the Instruments DVDs, Things with Strings and Clap and Tap, are designed to provide a highly interactive viewing, learning and fun-filled experience for children ages 2 to 6. Each DVD includes interactive musical activities based on solid preschool curriculum themes.

Along with the featured instruments, the activities help foster early learning skill sets such as shapes, counting, body parts, sounds and directions. Children clap and sing along to familiar tunes while getting a first-hand look at popular and unusual instruments. Hosts Cathy and Marcy speak directly to the viewing children so that they feel the video was made just for them.

“We created Meet the Instruments to meet the interests and needs of preschoolers,” explains Fink. “After several musical releases for elementary school children, it was time to renew our commitment to introducing music to younger children.”

At the recent National Education for Young Children conference in DC, Cathy and Marcy met with hundreds of preschool educators, offering free ukulele lessons and practical tips about music in the classroom.

“These DVDs are great for groups of kids, or just for parents and kids to enjoy at home,” Fink adds.

Cathy and Marcy are trailblazers in children's and family music. They play dozens of instruments from fiddle to rockin' electric guitar to steel drum. They sing, yodel, chicken cluck in harmony, twirl a mean lariat rope, scat sing and inspire effortless participation from every audience. Most importantly, they love what they do and have been rewarded for their excellence with 2 GRAMMY Awards, 14 consecutive GRAMMY nominations (including one for 2010) and literally hundreds of awards from independent groups such as The Parents' Choice Foundation, National Parenting Publications of America, American Library Association, John Lennon Songwriting Contest, Washington Area Music Association and more. They won 2009 Gold awards from both Parents’ Choice and NAPPA, and an Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Platinum Award for their Grammy Award nominated EP Banjo to Beatbox.

Both Clap and Tap and Things with Strings are available ($15 SRP each) from Cathy & Marcy's Songshop and at retailers nationwide.
